The History of Heritage
With roots back to the early 20th Century
Lancaster, Ohio was the birthplace of Heritage Healthcare in the 1920s, later sold to Walter “Wally” Cook and Willis Schwendeman in 1947.
Wally, an incredible innovator and visionary, built the first computerized medical supply business in Lancaster, that featured seven-day service, 24 hour delivery. Wally’s business succeeded and grew through a growing a base of fans and loyal patrons, long before Facebook was around, with exceptional customer service.
In 1992, Wally handed the reins to Heritage’s now CEO, John Hunter.
While any successful business evolves with the decades and the innovations in technology, one thing that hasn’t changed is the pledge to uphold Wally’s many ideals and practices to honor the customer.
How does Heritage do this today?
Customers will always reach a real person. We know waiting through automated phone menus is not the best use of our customers’ time.
Our customers can also count on working with the same people; our employees are hired to be on board for the long haul. We don’t like the idea of turnover; it’s not good for anyone, but it’s especially annoying to customers who get comfortable working with a familiar face.
We value that.
And we still customize our service to each of our clients.
We fully understand this way is not considered the easy road by any means, but it was a deeply held value of Wally’s that we proudly hold steadfast today.
2005 marked a milestone year: we joined two of North America’s largest group purchasing co-operatives, relocated to a larger facility, bolstered our selection which all helped us deliver great prices and service well beyond the borders of Ohio—loyal customers in almost every state allowed us to serve them!
Our ability to customize prices and services for each customer as well as offering same or next-day delivery on medical supplies have contributed to our growth.
Using our membership in the largest independent medical products buying group in North America, we offer medical supplies, equipment, textiles/linens and even leasing to customers. We have access to over 100,000 healthcare items at contract pricing.
Our goal has always been to “Beat our Competitor’s Pricing While Exceeding Their Service!”
We hope you give us an opportunity to prove our commitment to Wally’s principles!
